I have what looks like some blue-green algae in my tank. It's not much yet. I removed the rock on which it was growing but I must assume it's in the water and will pop up again very soon. What are the chances the opae ula will eat it?
It they don't eat it fast enough to keep it in check, and I put some nerite snails in there in hopes that they will chomp it down, will the nerites also go after my Chaeto (which is a true alga unlike the BGA)? The BGA is so soft that I'm hoping the nerites might prefer it over the Chaeto but I don't know about this kind of thing -- never had to deal with BGA before and never had nerites before.
People often describe the habits of nerites in a pretty general way but I'm sure there must be some differences in diet and behavior and optimum water parameters by species. The ones I'd use are "pumpkin" nerites, the same species as "red racers", Vittina waigiensis. I'm hoping anyone who has kept red racer nerites in an opae ula tank can probably tell me whether this is a viable solution.
