@Algae In Space That is a nice piece of rock you got there. May i ask if you use a filter during cycle process? And i realise many of you guy are pretty much within 30cm to 45cm tank size and it looked great. Would it be too small for lets say 60 opae ula to fit in such size?

It will be ok I guess. Have a look at this neat little study http://www.spacegrant.hawaii.edu/report ... e_FA06.pdf
They state: "Microcosms should be loaded with an initial density of 3.2 shrimp per liter of environment plus an additional 20 percent of the total number to account for initial die offs." In fact I have a little bit too few in my tank.

Happy you like it. I like too! But I am starting a new tank with lava only and am not sure if I'll keep this one when the new one is funktional :upset: It will be a cylindrical tank 30 x 30, 21 l. What excites me about a lava only tank are the little caves that form when you pile some lava stones on top of each other  and the purity of course.

I was using a filter, yes. But only some 2 hours a day. Now I only use it 30 minutes per day.

I guess a 20-30 l tank is a ideal size. On the other hand I would use a 500 l tank if I had the resources.

Paulao wrote: 14 Nov 2018 03:21 @opae ula related My apologies on the mistaken. Where are you from? Do you keep opae ula too? I'm wondering would a filter or air pump be needed during cycle process? And is there a recommendation on lighting watt requirement for example a 57litre tank or so long as there is a light it is good enough? Any advice on the above?
See below link to the tank owners page where i share some info.

Odin has a section on cycling right on the homepage. Filter and air pump is not needed but you can if you wish. I am simple, enough light you can see your pets. =)

@Algae In Space Lava rock tank sounds good. I saw some video on youtube and their lava are beautifully stacked up. So do you intend to drill some additional holes on the lava rocks? Saw many people did that. By the way, I've done your questionnaire and submitted it. Good question you've got there and it actually gives me answers to myself while answering it.

@opae ula related nice larva video you got there. how many do you have now? Can't wait to see more updates of your Alphas.

Oh, tanks for that! Glad you like it! I've already bought the rocks. Im not sure about the hole drilling. I guess I won't as they will have enough caves naturally. But who knows!

I used ceramic caves in my tank that look like rocks and just mixed them in with my lumps of lava rock. The shrimps love them.
