Ok I will be doing a larger tank hopefully in the next week or so. Plan to set it up and eventually slowly transfer the opae over. I really don't want to disturb my current tanks other than my outside 10 gallon. I'n not in a rush.

This is a 2.5 gallon behind my Nano 6 and 5,5 gallon This is my 5.5 gallon next to my Nano 6. The 2,5 gallon is right in back.
This is my outside tank. Has a heater. No air or filter. This one will be brought into the garage. No problems whatsoever with this tank. All opae healthy and happy. No losses even though this tank has hit 95 degrees over the summer. 1o gallon in the garage
Nanocube 6 gallon

Thank you. I definately did feed and it shows by all the algae. For the bigger tank it will be very basic. Lava rock substrate, and I will use a sponge filter till the tank has gone through it's cycle. I'll transfer some of the algae covered rocks to jump start it. I will move the opae slowly over time to the tank. I just don't want to disturb the tanks that are breeding.

@Vorteil , how do i stimulate algae growth? my bacteria house which has algae grown on it, after putting in my new tank, is slowly dying off till the point where it is near 100% clean now.

Here's the issue you have a new tank. There's no nutrients to feed the algae. Same thing with one of my jars. I had only fed it 3x so there's little algae but biofilm. I knew that the opae were eating since I could see all of the waste building up at the bottom of the jar. I my second jar I started with algae covered rocks. Those rocks still have some algae but not much. Not enough nutrients in there to keep the algae growing like it was used to.

Bottom line in order to get algae to grow like crazy it needs to be fed. All of my tanks were heavily fed, some every 2-3 days with spirulina. I did not feed much but I did. Now there's more than enough algae which is being fed by the opae waste. It's my personal belief that this is the best way to start a tank. In order to not feed at all there needs to be a good foundation with algae there.

should we feed just enough for the shrimps to finish or overfeed? cos overfeeding would lead to ammonia, nitrite and nitrate to build up again, am i right?

How many opae do you have & what is the tank size? What have you fed before in the past vs. what you plan on feeding?

Also what food will you be feeding? That makes a huge difference too.
