"Are those floating rocks? Or what is it?"
I hung a piece of Ocean rock (Limestone) in a jar of brackish water on a sunny window sill, with a little Alga from the tank side on it, for about 3 weeks untill the Alga started to grow

then suspended it in the tank on braid fishing line, I'd noticed the shrimp swimming to the top to feed on the biofilm then clustering on top of the heater before swimming back down, they soon found the rock

Thanks for the pictures! I really like it, i am looking for something similar for quite some time to give them something to land on or to rest on after swimming to the top. To what is the "floating rock" attached? Something out of the tank? I already ordered some supplies, but not yet sure of i will attach them to something outside the tank, or to something else floating... On the surface...

Disaster :upset:
after a Sunday lie in I looked in at the Shrimps 10:00, couldn't see any ! checked the thermometer 58*F (14.5C)
the heater neon wasn't on, the lights (on a timer) were on, both on same plug block so there was power
quick thinking I warmed 250 ml of tank water up and added it back to the tank x4 times

this brought the temperature to 64*F (17.5C) at 10:30, checked the heater fuze OK so pulled it apart

when I set the downstairs 75 gallon freshwater Shrimp tank up I'd taken x2 300w heaters out and swapped them for a new 250w heater I got these out and put plugs on then, put them in the upstairs Shrimp tank
10:30 - 54*F, 11:00 - 66*F, 11:30 - 70*F, 13:30 - 74*F
a Few Shrimps began to apear but they were all pale then some of the tank juviniles gathered on the tank side by the light where they usually feed

Don’t worry about it, these shrimp can survive weeks in transit without a heater, I’m not sure how sensitive the baby’s may be but if not noticed any issues up to now, to keep my breeder tank stable I use two heaters... just in case.

It seems strange but I was just thinking about this issue yesterday, maybe it’s time to buy a device that emails me if the heater breaks/doesn’t bring the water up to temperature.
