All's well in Shrimp land
still feeding a 'match head' size of Spirulina each day and the Algae's grown back on the tank walls to such an extent I cleaned the front glass to take better photo's. They'll all be feeding on the tank wall Algae but as soon as I lift the glass tank cover there's a stampede for the top, and to think when there were only the first 12 in the tank if I went near they'd hide for days !

it's a matter of Logistics, or should I say money, the nearest RO water is a 50 mile round trip away and they charge £2:50 for 5 gallon, bring your own container, so a rough calculation thats x15 containers = £37:50 and 750 mile in round trips at 45 mpg = £90. The food grade water container cost £8 so I don't want to buy more to only use them a couple of times, though it will save petrol costs. I've looked at 5 Stage RO & DI resin reverse osmosis water filter systems which seem to cost around £75, but are they any good ?

are coming to the end of their life cycle and I've not added any new ones, so if I empty it give it a good clean out, new gravel, would you boil the Lava rocks and ocean rock to sterilize ? i.e. get rid of the fresh water Bacteria and start from new with Brackish RO water and BioDigest or just give them a scrub off, give the tank a couple of weeks to settle then add the small Opae tank in one go ?

Nice pics! You can keep the water in the front room tank. Increase salinity level by .002 each week and the freshwater bacteria will convert to brackish bacteria.

that would shure save money, I could take the Lava rocks out and keep them in a bucket of tank water while I syphonsome of the the mucky gravel out and put some fresh in then the rocks back and +.002 SG each week till it reaches SG 0.12 then I could top up with RO at .012 couple of vials of BioDigest and add a few Opae. I'll have no problem netting a few in the feeding frensy :grin3:
