I would just leave it alone. No need to do continual water changes. You have some ammonia no big deal.

My jar is closed most of the time. I open it up every 2 weeks or so for air/gas exchange. Here's pics of it. I just had babies released again in here a week ago. That is not sand at the bottom. It is necessary for the jar in order to be in balance.
