Fed 1 pad of shrimplab algae food to tank #03 and they seem to of been hungry

Today i dosed tank #03 with Biodigest and fed 1 ShrimpLab algae pad, I'm starting to get a lot of hair like algae so I have reduced the lights by 2 hours [the blind is open for the photo but is usually shut to block direct sun light], I will observe and reduce more if needed.

12th April 2016
Today i ordered some new tools to remove some of the hair algae from tank #03 (only tank with it) and hopefully they should arrive for the weekend [scrapers and cutting reach tool thing ]. I will continue to reduce the light periods over the coming weeks and see if it makes any difference to the quantity of algae. What I do have right now in tank #03 doesn't grow fast but I would like it to stay on the substrate and walls and keep away from the ocean rock as the shrimp like to perch in groups there. They seem to get annoyed with pushing through strands of hair algae to pick food from the rocks etc.

I also had a spare hour after work tonight so i tested the water parameters in my communal Opae'ula tank #03 which has 3 hundred odd shrimp and took an ammonia test from one of my selective bred tanks which only has around 30 shrimp in and isnt ever fed just as a control to compare the ammonia test with tank #03. Both tests showed the same reading of Zero so im happy that i have read the results right .

Today I decided to do some cleaning up of tank#03 to remove a lot of the algae from the back wall and take the glass feeding dish's out and scrub them clean. I put only one dish back in to use and turned my heater down now as the warmer weather it coming back to the UK. While i was at it i removed the heater and removed all of the hair algae and added it back to the tank.

I took a few photos of my main tank so you can see what its like at the moment, The shrimp are all pale and swimming around like they are on fire because they are stressed from all the tank maintenance

I will wait for them to settle down and them feed them 1 pad of shrimpLab algae food, also i am going to reduce the lights down to 8 hours on and 16 off to monitor the hair algae growth.

In my large tank [#03] i have skipped feeding this Friday and have the tank set at about 19degrees C. The Lights are now only on 8 hours a day to reduce algae. They are molting a lot though


Everything is normal in the shrimp kingdom.

Nothing of any interest to report, snail eggs have not amounted to anything yet. Dosed tank #03 with Biodigest.

When eggs don't hatch, do they just fall off and die?
