Not something I am considering myself, but I saw the page on this site listing sites selling opae ula and noticed one of them was also selling these: https://www.garnelen-tom.de/zwerggarnel ... lpheops-sp
They are in the family Alpheidae, which is the same as the alpha opae ula and the pistol shrimp.

They are described as brackish water shrimp in the description with a optimal SG of 1.010, although they are also kept as freshwater shrimp. The temperature preferences also seem similar to opae ula. It mentions they grow 3-4cm, which would make them probably too large to be good tankmates for opae ula. However, other articles describe them as much smaller:

'Adults are a maximum of just over 1/4"'
http://www.planetinverts.com/Purple_Zebra_Shrimp.html

'Size: 0.25 in / 6 mm (both sexes)'
http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/shrimp/purple-zebra.php

'Size male/female: ~1.2cm'
http://www.shrimpnow.com/content.php/19 ... amalpheops

'Size Index: 0.5cm - 1.2cm'
http://nanocaridina.weebly.com/potamalpheops-sp.html

Would be interesting for someone to experiment with keeping these alongside opae ula.

They look great don't they, i've seen them online before but only information and never for sale and i'm very tempted! I would setup a tank and buy some but i have to move house soon so I couldn't do it yet. I found this: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/ ... 1472603493 from looking they look to be about the same size as the alphas. Feeding the larvae is needed and i would be worried about dosing the tank with liquid feed too much and causing nutrient spikes. You could have a separate larvae tank though!

Thanks for the links. Interesting, you can see the larvae after birth compared to Alpha Opae Ula which you can not see. Your first link mentioned they disappeared in a week, so assuming they starved to death.

Shrimpfever.com sells then for 3.49 each but are sold out.

If that is a standard sized oak leaf, they seem fairly small in relation to it.

Quarter inch is the max size so they are small.
